Artist and designer Laurie DiBiagio approaches her work as an ever evolving story and collective. The tales she weaves are just as important as her wares. A born storyteller, Laurie is continually drawing inspiration from tribal culture, her travels across the 7 seas, and the phenomenon of natural shape and form. Timeless, refined, and one-of-a-kind. She believes in making a lot out of a little in life and art. Laurie is also expanding her vision for sirena + the sea launching SIRENA SWIM and ready to wear in 2017. Each piece thoughtfully designed by Laurie and made in Bali, Indonesia with a focus on sustainability and versatility.
Designed and handmade in coastal New Jersey in artist’s in home studio. Each piece is handwoven and sculpted by Laurie utilizing fibrous naturally occurring materials to create unique pieces accented with precious metal clay and porcelain. 100% natural dyed genuine leather and recycled vintage silk saris are knotted, braided, and woven. Precious metal clay and porcelain are shaped, formed, and fired in in-house kiln. Although part of a collection each piece is one-of-a-kind and will vary slightly do to the nature of the handmade process. Making each adornment truly original work.
Leather: Like a classic pair of leather boots, allow the pieces to soften and break in with wear. To keep smooth and buttery, you can place a morsel of olive/coconut oil into your hands, rub together, and gently massage your piece. Hang on hanger, hook or, lay flat when storing. Handle with love and care.
Fair trade reclaimed Indian silk sari: As with all handmade, silk, and vintage material, please treat the pieces gently and with care. The fabric variations and imperfections are meant to bring character and authenticity, making them truly one of a kind. As you wear your pieces, they will soften and break in, just like a quality pair of leather boots. The evolution of the piece is a story and a journey. The pieces should be hung on a hanger or hook, or laid flat when not worn. They are also welcome to join you for a swim in the sea. Each piece should be rinsed with fresh water and properly hung to dry. As with any material it will soften, change, and fade with the sun and salt. How you wear and wear-in your piece is entirely up to you. Handle with love and care.
Porcelain and Stoneware: Ceramic clay bodies that are durable , resilient, and wearable -- yet delicate by nature. Simple and sweet. Formed, sculpted, fired, and glazed. As with all ceramic handle with care.
Precious Metal Clay: Precious metal in the form of clay is fired in in-house kiln, sanded, and polished to form solid metal. Allow for piece to achieve desired patina, or shine with a polishing cloth.
