One person’s “new year, new you,” is another’s “new year, same you, new wardrobe” because, honestly, why mess with something that’s already perfect? *bats eyelashes*
Instead, we’re focusing on recruiting swell new swim additions to our cache of seashore ensembles. Take a peek at the six fresh releases from local labels Vermilli, Pikai Swim Hawai‘i, Sirena + The Sea and Magdakine Swimwear we’ll be donning to kick off a new year of beach-bumming, wave-catching, duck-diving and sun-bathing.
Can we cue the fireworks, please?
1. SIRENA + THE SEA LOLITA BIKINI

Laurie DiBiagio of Sirena + The Sea manufactures all of her products in Bali out of premium Italian Lycra and regenerated nylon made from post-consumer waste. She partnered with Philadelphia-based artist Kate Leeman for the earthy hand-dyed print on this fun bustier style.
Add a twist to your beach look? Pikai Swim Hawai‘i by Malia Lins Costa has got your back. This new set, inspired by the art of ti leaf wrapping, sports subtle-but-sexy corded details that trim the bottom and cinch together the racerback top’s flirty cut-outs.
This beautiful minimalist maillot by local designer and UH Mānoa grad Nicole Vermillion has a flattering geometric print, girly lower-back lacing and just the right amount of cheekiness. And for the ultimate bonus, it’s completely reversible to a sleek, subdued grey.
5. MAGDAKINE SWIMWEAR CAROLINA TOP & SAN SEBASTIEN BOTTOM

Is there any flower prettier than the cheerful lehua? This gorgeous long-sleeve top is a limited-edition style set to be released in February from ecoconscious Magdakine Swimwear, designed by former Hawai‘i conservationist Magdalena Berger and manufactured by a small family-run factory in Southern California.
6. SIRENA + THE SEA REBEL WITH A BACKBONE ONE-PIECE

This maillot’s deep-plunge neckline and soft blush shade caught our eye, but it’s the intricate single braiding down the spine, reminiscent of designer Laurie DiBiagio’s background in woven jewelry, that makes this piece really stand out.
